Coach #2930

The Tioga Transportation Society acquired the New York Central deluxe coach #2930 in 2001. After a two-year restoration process, the car is now in excellent mechanical condition. Coach #2930 is currently on lease to Tioga Central Railroad for use on its excursion and special trains, offering an authentic railroad experience from the late 1940’s. This car is a favorite among the passengers who walk through or ride in it. They sometimes refer to it as the “blue car” due to the color of its upholstery visible in the pictures below. The coach boasts a modern and relatively new climate control unit and a dual lady’s restroom in the south end.

Coach #2930 was originally built for the New York Central System by the Edwin S. Budd Company of Philadelphia, PA and is of stainless steel construction. It carried the number 2930 while under the control of Penn Central and was then renumbered as 5657 under Amtrak ownership. Under private ownership it was numbered MMRX103. Today, in addition to the designation of being New York Central, this car once again carries with pride number 2930.
