Bicycle Rack

Tioga County has one of the best Rails-to-Trails in the country. With the completion of the latest segment to be constructed from Ansonia to Wellsboro Junction, its current terminus is just across State Route 287 from Wellsboro Junction. It’s only natural that the numerous users, both on foot and on bicycles, continue on over to the Junction to check out the train and even ride the train.

The Society’s gift shop manager Martha M. had noticed that there was no place to park the bicycles. She asked the Society if they would okay the purchase of a bicycle rack for our two-wheeled, self-powered enthusiasts. The membership voted unanimously to do so. The order was placed with the bicycle shop in Mansfield and in August of 2008 it had been received and placed on the south side of the storage shed next to Car 54. A sign was also acquired from the sign shop in Mansfield to show everyone that this was a designated parking area for bicycles.

A year later it was decided that the bike rack should be moved to a more convenient location. So it was placed on the south side of the Round Top flag station almost in the center of the Junction’s parking lot, where it resides today along with its Bicycle Parking Sign.
