Ned M. – 1-inch Scale Railroad
Ned M. lives in Horseheads, NY and is a retired Conrail freight conductor. His railroad career dates back to the B&O in Galeton, PA prior to WWII. After serving his country with the US Navy, Ned returned to railroading with the New York Central, Penn Central and finally Conrail.
Since 1994 Ned has been volunteering as a passenger conductor and foreman of the paint crew with Tioga Central Railroad at Wellsboro Junction in Tioga County, PA.
In addition to his work with “real” railroad equipment, Ned has been involved with a group of folks from the Twin Tiers (northern Pennsylvania and southern New York State), for quite some time now, who have constructed and maintain a 1-inch scale (scratch built) model railroad.
The layout is located a couple of miles north of Horseheads, NY at a private residence. The railroad boasts of live steam, a crane complete with all of its rigging and a snowplow. Besides the coal tender, which the “engineer” rides on, there are numerous cars that are modified to carry passengers.

Every railroad needs a heavy crane to keep the line open.

Of course it snows in the Twin Tiers.
