Gift Shop
The Tioga Transportation Society operates and manages a gift shop that is currently located in Tioga Central Railroad’s Car 54 at Wellsboro Junction. The gift shop offers unique railroad gifts, souvenirs, railroad books (some by local authors), stuffed animals and jigsaw puzzles. The proceeds from the gift shop are used for purchasing artifacts, memorabilia, passenger enhancements, community functions, acquisition and restoration of local railroad structures and some equipment restoration.
TCRR Car #54 was built in 1894 at the Port Huron shops of the Chicago and Grand Trunk Railway as Detroit, Grand Haven and Grand Trunk Railway 2905. It was used as a pay car. In addition to the Grand Trunk, it served the Canadian National and the Morris County Central Railroad in Whippany, New York. In 1972 it was sold to a New York business to be used as a carpet store at Manlius (near Syracuse). It was rescued from this fate by Tioga Central Railroad in 1989 and renumbered 54.
