Jerry – Engineer

- Jerry is an engineer for both passenger and freight service.
I was born in Geneva, NY, a whistle stop for the LVRR and the NYCRR. My grandparents had the LV in their back yard and the NYC across the street. We visited my grandparents often, and I remember when the first diesel powered “Black Diamond” went through and thought “What happened to the locomotive???”
Moving on and lamenting the closure of the LV, I served in the U.S. Army in Trois Fontaines, France as a diesel electric power generator specialist. It wasn’t long before I got a call to the railhead to”fix” a dead Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton switcher. It turned out to be an emergency stop ring pulled out by a passing overhanging tree branch. (Not that much difference than Tioga Central’s R-O-W.) After that I worked on the U.S. Army RR quite a bit.
I met Judy and we were married and raised a family. One year for an anniversary present we rode Tioga Central’s dinner train where I met Don. M, Rich S. and Jerry B. and was thoroughly impressed with both the staff and equipment. I was invited to join and become a brakeman, which I readily accepted. I worked my way up “through the ranks” and received my locomotive engineer’s license.
TCRR has always been a family oriented operation and the transition to the Myles Group ownership has maintained that flavor. Where else can you find so many wonderful people working together as we have at TTS.
